Alejandra Garcia y GutierrezT:When did you start your art journey?
A:I studied Environmental Engineering but turned to drawing when my doctor recommended occupational therapy after an operation on my hand. My first drawings came out of my approach to the environment- I had a passion for what I saw through the microscope in biology classes and plants. Playing with organic shapes will always be a huge part of my geometric illustrations. I remember reading an investigation into human tears seen through a microscope and thinking they were a paradise of geometry. It makes me think that everything that chemically forms us is made up of geometric shapes.
T:You have developed such a unique artistic signature style when it comes to geometric shapes and colors. When did you start to feel the strong connection and response to shapes?
A:I think my work is influenced by time and space. It’s a beautiful way of expressing what happens in my world, mainly turning my experiences into shapes and colors.
T:What do you wish your audience to feel and receive when they see your artworks?
A:Finding balance in shape and colour. I think my work is influenced by time and space especially the architecture around me. I look to find beautiful ways to express what happens in my world, mainly by turning my experiences into shapes and colors. My work takes it form and becomes iconic when I have really focused on color. I am convinced that color is the foundation of my work.
